An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Thursday ordered the remand of Olayinka Akinware, 35, and Tunji Adesina, 29, for allegedly setting four dogs on police officers to prevent the arrest of a suspect.

Chief Magistrate M. Mudashiru, who did not take the suspects’ plea due to lack of jurisdiction, ordered that they be remanded at Abolongo Correctional Facility in Oyo pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). The case was adjourned until December 18 for mention.

According to Prosecutor Inspector Femi Oluwadare, Akinware and Adesina were charged with conspiracy and obstruction of arrest. On September 12, at about 8:30 a.m., the suspects allegedly attacked officers—DSP Festus Fagbohun, ASP Ojo Tolulope, Inspector Sariki Mohammed, and Corporal Tosin Olubode—with branches of a bamboo tree while releasing four dogs, including a Pitbull and a Rottweiler, on the officers.

The police were attempting to arrest Korede Adeoye, a resident in their house, at No. 15, Oluwo area, Ibadan. The incident led to charges under Sections 332 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The remand of the suspects will continue until the court receives further guidance from the DPP.
