The 29-year-old has been out of action for the Red Devils ever since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations with South Africa, but earlier this week his return to training was confirmed.

The Witbank native is expected to be inserted straight into Marcel Koller’s starting XI for their CAF Champions League encounter against Ghana’s Medeama on Friday evening.

During the 2023 AFCON, the forward struggled to provide a consistent offensive threat for Bafana Bafana, but Ahly legend Sayed Moawad believes that, for his club side, Tau offers a plethora of solutions offensively.

“The return of Percy Tau gives Al Ahly many solutions in the offensive line, and Wessam Abou Ali is likely to participate during the second half, and Al Ahly is able to achieve a positive result, and the midfield will play Akram Tawfik, Amr El Solia and Emam Ashour, and the attack will be played by Reda Slim and Hussein El Shahat with [Anthony] Modeste,” the three-time CAFCL winner said on the Box To Box programme.

The former attacker also addressed Ahly’s request to have the match in west Africa postponed as a result of their airplane malfunctioning, suggesting that such problems are a regularity when travelling on the continent.

“The Al Ahly and Medeama match is very important, and winning it secures the lead and promotion [to the next round],” he added.

“There is absolutely no crisis in staying overnight in the city of Kumasi and then traveling the next day. We were going through difficult circumstances on our trips to Africa.”
