Alonso ‘Reaches’ Exit Agreement Amid Liverpool & Bayern Interest

Xabi Alonso has reportedly reached an exit agreement with his current club for the end of the season.

In-demand tactician Xabi Alonso has reportedly come to an agreement with his current club over an exit as he continues to be linked with Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

The Spanish tactician is the latest young manager to emerge out of the Basque region, and while he was tipped for success in his head coaching career, few would have anticipated it being so early on with Bayer Leverkusen.

The 42-year-old has taken the club from flirting with relegation to the cusp of winning their first-ever Bundesliga title.

His exploits at the BayArena have consequently attracted the attention of two sides he used to play for during his days as a deep-lying midfielder, the Reds and Die Roten.

Both have German managers leaving at the end of the 2023/24 campaign in Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel, and are said to view Alonso as an ideal successor.

Those two clubs will be pleased to hear that, according to Sky Germany, the Tolosa native has reached an agreement with Leverkusen that he may leave the Die Schwarzroten at the end of the season, but only if any of his suitors make a suitable offer.

The same report claims that any club interested in Alonso will have to pay between €15 million and €25 million (R311 million and R519 million) to secure his services as an exit clause in his contract does not kick in until the end of next season.

It is said the end of the 2024/25 campaign is when a club can land the former Spain international for just €15 million but it seems unlikely either Bayern or Liverpool will wait until then as they are both expected to push for his signature in the coming months.
