Xavi could be sacked if Barcelona crash out of the UEFA Champions League.

The circumstances under which Barcelona will sack Xavi Hernandez this season, despite his decision to step down at the end of the campaign, have reportedly been revealed.

According to AS correspondent Javi Miguel, the Catalan club will part ways with the Spanish tactician should they be knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Napoli.

The two teams drew 1-1 in the first leg of their round of 16 match last month, and will do battle again  in the reverse fixture in Spain on Tuesday.

This is regardless of Xavi’s announcement, in January, that he will be vacating his role as Barcelona head coach when the 2023/24 season concludes.

Xavi’s announcement came after the Blaugrana suffered a 5-3 loss to Villarreal at home in LALIGA, a result that came after the team had crashed out of the Copa del Rey.

Performances and results improved after the former Spain midfielder confirmed his future departure, but the team’s 0-0 draw with Athletic Club on Sunday has raised further concern.
