On Sunday, Brazilian side Sao Paulo issued a statement saying 61-year-old Dorival Junior has left his post to join the Brazil national side.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, the club said: “Sao Paulo Football Club announces the departure of coach Dorival Junior, who has asked to leave to take charge of the Brazilian national team”.

This comes after the CBF recently decided to part ways with interim boss Fernando Diniz, who was appointed on a short-term basis after the World Cup in Qatar.

According to Reuters, Dorival Junior became Brazil’s desired choice following their apparent failed pursuit of Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti.

The legendary Italian was strongly linked with the post but has reportedly chosen to stay in Spain for the time being.
