Chelsea transfer news: Cole Palmer matches Jude Bellingham and breaks RECORD

Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Chelsea, Real Madrid, 2023/24

Cole Palmer has undoubtedly been one of the signings of the season after a sublime first few months at Chelsea.

The England international was evidently a talented player during his time at Manchester City, but he was never rewarded with a significant role in the first-team by Pep Guardiola.

Given the immense quality at the Etihad Stadium, Palmer’s limited role came as little surprise, however he has stepped up big time following his move to Stamford Bridge.

Palmer was billed as Chelsea’s marquee forward arrival last summer, which was a fact that frustrated many Blues fans. After all, he had barely featured for Man City and was expected to transform a misfiring attack.

However, the 21-year-old has proven all his critics wrong with a brilliant start to life at Chelsea.

Cole Palmer sets new Chelsea record

Palmer stepped up yet again on Monday night, scoring once and providing one assist during the Blues’ narrow 3-2 win over Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United. Palmer’s goal contributions at Stamford Bridge mean he now has 19 goals and assists in the Premier League this season (11 goals and eight assists), drawing him level with Jude Bellingham’s tally of 19 goal contributions in La Liga.

The English pair lead the way for goal involvements in Europe’s top five leagues for players aged 21 or under, ahead of Maximilian Beier (17), Florian Wirtz (16) and Xavi Simons (16).

Bellingham has been deservedly-lauded for his form at Real Madrid and Palmer has managed to match him – that is no mean feat.

Furthermore, Palmer has now notched the most goals contributions in a single Premier League campaign for Chelsea by a player aged 21 or younger. He’s also achieved this feat in his debut season, which is extremely impressive.

In addition, all 19 of Palmer’s Premier League goal involvements this season have come in his last 19 league matches.

Palmer is in sensational form and Gareth Southgate will have many questions to answer if he isn’t included in England’s squad for this summer’s European Championship.

Mauricio Pochettino remains under massive pressure at Chelsea, and he has Palmer to thank for why he remains in charge at Stamford Bridge.
