According to Soccernet.ng, Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro had been “sweating” on the fitness of first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

The 27-year-old, who plays his club football for Chippa United in South Africa, picked up an injury in the Super Eagles’ round of 16 victory over Cameroon.

Nwabali made his international debut in 2021 in a 4-0 friendly defeat to Mexico, and was only recalled ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.

He played in a friendly match against Guinea leading up to the tournament, and has been picked from the start in all four of Nigeria’s games in the Ivory Coast.

The shot-stopper has conceded just once in his four appearances too, and is now confirmed to be available for selection against Angola by Nigeria’s media officer Babafemi Raji.

“He trained yesterday, he trained the day before but yesterday was more intense so it simply means he’s available for selection today,” he said, according to Channels Television.

“For him to have trained yesterday rigorously with the rest of the team he’s very much available for selection.
