EFA Sets Condition For Salah Call-Up After AFCON Drama

Mohamed Salah has been set a condition ahead of his potential return to the Egypt national team.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has set a condition for Mohamed Salah to return to the Egypt national team after his controversial decision to head back to Liverpool during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The African giants will participate in the Winsunited Cup this month in the upcoming international break, with Tunisia, Croatia and New Zealand also scheduled to be involved.

It will be Hossam Hassan’s first experience as Egypt’s head coach, after Portuguese tactician Rui Vitoria was replaced following the Pharaohs’ disappointing AFCON campaign in the Ivory Coast.

Questions have been asked around Salah’s potential involvement after the 31-year-old Liverpool winger left the Africa Cup of Nations prematurely due to a hamstring injury.

His call to return to England provoked an angry response from fans and ex-Egypt players, who criticised him for a lack of commitment to the team.

Speaking recently about Salah, who has featured only once for Liverpool since being back with his club teammates, EFA board member Ehab El-Komy said the player will be called up if he features for the Reds before the break.

“The coaching staff, the Football Association, and the Egyptian fans are all keen on Salah’s safety,” he said, according to KingFut.

“If he is not 100% ready, the national team coaching staff will be even more cautious about his presence in the upcoming camp. We have two weeks ahead of us and his recovery may be complete.

“If Mohamed Salah is ready, we will be keen on his presence. Otherwise, a different talk will be held at the appropriate time.

“Even up to the date of the international agenda, if Salah plays in any match with Liverpool, he will be ready and we will call him up to join the Egyptian national team.

“We want things to be calm, especially since Hossam Hassan wants all players to be present for Egypt’s strong start under his leadership.”
