An emotional Vincent Kompany reserved some special praise for South African striker Lyle Foster, who was back among the goals over the weekend.

The Bafana striker was away from the game for close to two months to deal with mental health issues with support from the club.

Foster returned earlier this month and has started the club’s last three matches in the Premier League, including against Liverpool on Boxing Day.

The 23-year-old returned to the score-sheet on Saturday with a lovely run and finish to equalise for Burnley against Aston Villa, who did go on to get a late winner.

Kompany was full of praise for the South African striker after a rough period off the pitch.

“I honestly don’t know how he does it. I really don’t,” Kompany told the club’s official website.

“We saw him when he was at his lowest point and it even makes me emotional to think about it because it was a real tragedy.

“To see him enjoying playing now with the team, I’m happy for him rebuilding his happiness and for me as a human not just a coach, it’s beautiful for me to observe.”
