The new iteration of the FIFA Club World Cup is approaching and, in an attempt, to keep fans up to date with how their respective clubs are progressing in their bid to be a part of the revamped competition, world football’s governing body has released an online ranking tool (you can see it here).

As far as Africa is concerned, there are already two clubs that have qualified from the continent, and they are Ahly and Wydad.

They are the last two winners of the CAF Champions League (CAF CL) and have subsequently guaranteed their place in the United States tournament come 2025.

With CAF having been allocated four spots at the global showpiece, currently behind the north African giants in the rankings are DStv Premiership champions Sundowns.

Esperance de Tunis is the final team in contention to qualify as things stand, by virtue of how well they have performed in the Champions League in recent seasons.

Masandawana and their Tunisian counterparts could guarantee their spot in north America if either one of them are victorious in the next two editions of the CAF CL, but if Wydad or Ahly win those tournaments, then the final two spots will go to the highest-ranked African sides.

The next South African team that appears on the CAF rankings is Kaizer Chiefs in 11th position, while their Soweto counterparts Orlando Pirates are nowhere to be seen in the top 30. AmaZulu are final team from the PSL ranked, and they are currently in 23rd position.
