Ivan Toney: Price tag of Arsenal and Chelsea’s top striker target PLUMMETS

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea

Brentford have reduced their asking price for star man Ivan Toney massively this summer.

According to the Daily Mirror, the London club have slashed their price tag from £100 million to £60m as they realise that their original valuation would not have found a buyer.

Arsenal and Chelsea are going head to head for Toney this summer, with Brentford set to sell the striker as his contract expires in 2025.

Brentford initially had slapped a £100m asking price on Toney but given his contract situation and the fact that neither Arsenal nor Chelsea are prepared to go much higher than £60m, they have been forced to reduce their demands.

According to TeamTALK, Newcastle have joined the race for the Brentford attacker this summer.

Newcastle need to sign a new striker as Callum Wilson is now 32 and moving into the final year of his contract, meaning he could leave.

Toney was one of the hottest properties in the January transfer window, with Arsenal and Chelsea both keen to buy him.

The 27-year-old ended up staying at Brentford, but Brentford manager Thomas Frank has since admitted that it is virtually certain that Toney will be sold at the end of the campaign.

Chelsea and Arsenal – and also Newcastle – have made the signing of a top striker one of their main priorities for the summer transfer window.

The two London sides also have other targets on their shortlist such as Victor Osimhen and Joshua Zirkzee.

Ivan Toney impressive career

Toney has proven himself as one of the best English strikers around in recent years with 20 Premier League goals in 2022-23.

He missed the first half of this campaign due to a betting ban but returned to playing in January.

He has since been in excellent form, scoring four goals in eight games.

He has won one cap for the England national team and he is hoping to work his way back into the squad for Euro 2024 this summer.

Toney has an impressive 164 goals in 399 games during his career, appearing for the likes of Northampton Town, Newcastle, Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe, Wigan and Peterborough.

He joined Brentford in 2020 and has since scored 72 goals in 131 games.
