Liverpool vs Man City combined XI: Which players are included?

Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland, Liverpool, Man City, 2023/24

Liverpool host Manchester City on Sunday afternoon in a match that could define the Premier League title race.

A draw would be fantastic news for Arsenal, and would allow the Gunners to claim top spot if they beat Brentford, while defeat for either team would be a hammer blow.

As a result, the game holds massive importance.

Jurgen Klopp has been handed a boost by the return to fitness of Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, while Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden and Rodri were all rested during Man City’s midweek Champions League win over Copenhagen and will be fresh for Sunday’s crunch clash.

However, while Sunday’s game promises to be an enthralling encounter between two of the best teams in English football history, the topic of a combined XI between both sides has done the rounds on social media.

So, who would be included in a Liverpool-Man City combined starting XI if the team was picked based on their Estimated Transfer Value (ETV)?

Ederson and Alisson are two of the best goalkeepers in the world, but the Man City man wins this race, courtesy of his €57.4m ETV. A key difference between the Brazilian pair is that Ederson is one year younger than his compatriot.

At right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the clear choice (ahead of his England team-mate Kyle Walker), while Josko Gvardiol edges out Andrew Robertson on the other flank. The Man City star had an ETV of €70m before his €90m move last summer and his value has remained at around that level.

His age and contract length plays a role in why he has a higher ETV than Robertson.

Manuel Akanji and Ruben Dias are included as the centre-back pairing, ahead of Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk. The former has an ETV of €45.9m, while Dias’ stands at a whopping €80.1m.

Rodri (€82.3m), Bernardo Silva (€70.4m) and Dominik Szoboszlai (€65m) form the midfield three, behind a mega attack of Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

As you may have noticed, both Kevin de Bruyne and Van Dijk miss out on our combined XI, which is due to the fact their ETV has fallen thanks to their age.
