Man Utd transfer news: Jadon Sancho Dortmund loan turning sour

Jadon Sancho’s loan spell away from Manchester United at Borussia Dortmund would appear to have hit the buffers already.

The 23-year-old attacker moved back to Signal-Iduna Park in January having been excommunicated from the United first-team squad by manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag accused Sancho of failing to pull his weight in training, a charge denied in public by the England international.

He refused to apologise to his manager and was banished to train away from his team-mates.

That was until the January window opened and he was permitted to return to the Bundesliga.

Sancho signed from Dortmund for €85 million back in 2021 but never came close to recapturing his BVB form at Old Trafford.

Sancho’s honeymoon period is over

His second spell in Germany began well, with two assists in his first two games, but it hasn’t been plain sailing since then.

Sancho is goalless and without an assist since January 20, leading to question marks over his place in the line up with Dortmund now 20 points off the top of the table.

Coach Edin Terzic has mostly opted to play with Sancho on either the right or left wing, with players like Marco Reus and Julian Brandt operating centrally.

This has been to the detriment of the Manchester City academy graduate, who stated to his coach that he would prefer to play as No.10.

Questions have now been raised to Terzic about the on-loan Man Utd man, and his lack of form heading towards the conclusion of the season.

“We know that not everyone is at 100 percent,” Terzic admitted ahead of BVB’s Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen on Friday.

“Jadon hasn’t played for a long time and he lacks rhythm. It’s often the case that the guys who come back after a long downtime or a long break, they immediately light up at the beginning, when everything is new and fun again. And then every now and then there’s a dip.”

“(He) said very confidently that his favourite position is at 10. We know that he can be used very flexibly, but Julian Brandt and Marco Reus did really well as the number 10.”

It’s been reported that Dortmund would like to extend Sancho’s loan deal beyond the end of the season but United are seeking a sale at a price beyond what the Germans can afford.
