Jose Mourinho has been linked with a shock return to one of his former clubs in the Premier League.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Roma manager believes he has “unfinished” business at Manchester United and has “made it his mission” to return to the club.

This comes after the Portuguese boss was relieved of his duties in Rome following a string of poor results in Italy.

Mourinho spent two and a half seasons in charge of the Red Devils between 2016 and 2018, during which he claimed three trophies.

It is suggested the 61-year-old would like to work with incoming billionaire co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently purchased a 25% stake in the club.

A source, speaking to the abovementioned media outlet, said: “His ambition is to return to United. He feels like he has unfinished business there, after how it ended last time and he has made it his mission to go back.”

While it is unclear if there is any mutual interest from those upstairs at the Theatre of Dreams, Dutch coach Erik ten Hag has been under pressure throughout the season, with United currently occupying ninth place in the Premier League.

The Red Devils also crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at the group stage and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup last year.
