Minnesota United have confirmed that 32-year-old Eric Ramsay has been appointed as their new head coach, making him the youngest tactician in MLS history.

In England, the Englishman has enjoyed a growing reputation at Old Trafford, having been at the Manchester club since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign.

Initially a set-piece coach, Ramsay remained on Ralf Rangnick’s staff for his brief spell on the sidelines as interim manager between December 2021 and May 2022.

His impressive work ethic and knowledge then saw Erik ten Hag keep him on board following his appointment a season and a half ago.

Ramsay has left Benni McCarthy and company to join the Loons, where he will work with South Africa international Hlongwane, who was a standout performer for the team last season.

The 23-year-old scored 17 goals and assisted a further five strikes in 38 appearances across all competitions last term, and finished narrowly behind only Lionel Messi in the Leagues Cup’s top scorers ranking.
