Sekhukhune’s CAF CC Opponents Delay Wydad’s Return To Morocco

RS Berkane have delayed Wydad Athletic Club’s return to Morocco because of their shared private plane.

Sekhukhune United’s most recent CAF Confederation Cup opponents are reportedly the reason why Wydad Athletic Club have not yet travelled back to Morocco from southern Africa.

On Sunday, Babina Noko were unable to keep their slim chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of continental competition alive as a 0-0 draw ensured their elimination from CAF’s second-tier interclub competition.

The DStv Premiership side took on north African side RS Berkane Peter Mokaba Stadium, with the 0-0 draw being enough for the Moroccan club to return to the summit of Group D.

As a consequence of the Oranges Boys playing on Sunday, fellow Botola Pro side Wydad extended their stay in southern Africa for an extra day.

The two clubs arrived in the SADC region together in an effort to cut costs as Berkane were playing in South Africa, while the Red Castle travelled to Francistown in Botswana to face Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League.

Wydad left Botswana with all three points as they go into the final round of group-stage matches looking to claim the one of the two final quarter-final berths remaining as they are now level on six points with Simba SC in Group B.

Wydad played on Saturday, but according to Kooora, took a domestic flight to Gaborone in order to recover and recuperate from the travelling and fatigue of the game.
