The Ravens will take part in their final 2023/24 CAF CL group-stage tie when they take on Masandawana at Loftus Versfeld this weekend.

Both teams have already qualified for the quarter-finals so the match will serve as a dead rubber, but it seems the five-time African champions may have a difficult time making their way to the southern tip of Africa.

According Mazembe president Moise Katumbi, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo is refusing to issue the necessary flight permits that would allow for his team to make the trip.

“The government abandoned the team as if Mazembe was not a Congolese team,” Katumbi stated, as per Cairo24.

“We communicated before the Pyramids match and made it clear that the Congolese government had not supported us for three years.”

Prior to their match against Egyptian side Pyramids, the club issued a statement which denounced former DR Congo prime minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde for his treatment of the record Vodacom Ligue 1 champions.

Part of the official statement read: “All our requests for permission to leave and fly over Congolese territories and territory have been systematically rejected for any private plane carrying a delegation from the club or its president, while our opponents can land their own planes.”
