After his Man of the Match display in their 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake City last week, the 36-year-old opened his account for the 2024 MLS campaign in a 1-1 draw with LA Galaxy on Monday morning.

It what was a dismal showing from the Herons, Messi rescued a point in the 92nd minute after combining with former Barcelona colleague Alba.

Picking up a loose ball, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner swiftly moved the ball out to the left-back, who immediately gave it back to him before receiving it again.

Alba then found Messi with a trademark pass from the Spaniard seen many times over his career before the Argentine’s well-taken first-time finish past Galaxy’s John McCarthy in goal.

Inter Miami were outplayed in all departments in their encounter in Los Angeles and could have been behind as early as 13 minutes into the match.

Ex-Blaugrana midfielder Riqui Puig had his effort from the penalty spot saved by Miami’s Drake Callender, but continued to push as they eventually found the lead through Dejan Joveljic 15 minutes from time.

In what should have been a convincing victory for the home side, Messi’s stoppage-time strike means LA Galaxy will have to wait a little while longer for their first win of the 2024 season.
