‘What Vitoria Did Was An Insult To Egyptian Football’

A former Al Ahly star has slammed the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) for hiring Rui Vitoria as coach and defended a former Bafana Bafana tactician.

The Pharaohs endured another disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo on penalties in the round of 16.

Rui Vitoria’s charges did not win a single game at the tournament after registering three draws in the group stages.

Former Al Ahly star Ahmed Abou-Moslem says Vitoria did not introduce any new faces into the squad unlike former coach Carlos Queiroz.

“What Vitoria did was an insult to Egyptian football,” Ahmed Abou-Moslem said, as per KingFut.

“There is no system in Egypt, no structure, no long-term plans, and there is no communication between the youth teams.

“There are no standards when it comes to the Egyptian Football Association selecting coaches, and there is no vision.

“Vitoria’s contract with the Egyptian national team is a disaster and a crime, and whoever made that agreement must be held accountable.

“Carlos Queiroz [former head coach] was getting 100,000 Euros with Egypt, and when he left us and took charge of Iran, he was getting 30,000. So, where did this money go?

“There should have been a clause allowing the EFA to terminate Vitoria’s contract in the event of him failing to win AFCON.

“Where is the ‘Vitoria’ project? We haven’t seen new faces in the team, unlike Queiroz, who integrated the likes of Omar Kamal, Mohamed Abdelmonem and others,” he added.
