According to the Daily Mail, the estranged wife of midfielder Exequiel Palacios, who plays his club football in Germany for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, has sold his World Cup souvenirs to pay off debts.

In an interview this week, Argentine model Yesica Frias revealed she sold the jersey he wore in the final and his winner’s medal to help pay off their apartment in Tigre, a city 32.3km from the country’s capital, Buenos Aires.

“He doesn’t want to finish paying for the apartment because he didn’t know if it was going to be his or not,” she told Argentine TV network El Trece.

Frias took to Instagram to provide proof she had sold both his jersey and his winner’s medal, posting pictures alongside the buyer holding the memorabilia.

The model and Palacios are believed to have separated in April last year after she took to Instagram to announce their split, saying it was “because he showed me what he really is. I was with him in his worst moment and he let go of my hand in mine.”

During her interview, Frias insisted she wanted Palacios to “sign the divorce” and said she knew things about the World Cup-winning squad that they would not want known by the public.

“It is convenient for him that I remain silent. There are things I know about the National Team that I didn’t say,” she continued.

Palacios, who was an unused substitute during the Albiceleste’s penalty shootout victory over France in the final, made three appearances at the tournament in Qatar.
