In late December 2023, the former president of the Red Castle, Said Naciri, was arrested by Moroccan authorities after it was alleged that he was complicit in the forgery of official documents and attempts to steal from a known drug trafficker.

With the Moroccan executive said to still be in prison, the north African giants have since made strides in moving past the situation by temporarily appointing a new head.

According to Kech 24, the various heads of branches of the three-time African champion congregated on Monday to decide who will be responsible for all administrative, fiscal, and sporting tasks until their next general assembly, when a permanent replacement will be elected.

The club has confirmed that Abdelmajid Bernaki will assume presidential responsibilities as they look towards a more positive future.

As per the same report, part of Wydad’s statement read: “The attendees stressed the need to rally around the institution and continue normal operations, which allows the club to continue playing the leadership role it has been known for since its founding.”

The club has also been struggling in terms of finances, while results on the pitch have also not been ideal so far this season.
